How to Be a Good Muslim

Topic : Be a Good Muslim
Question: Salaam wa leikum Lately I have not been performing my prayers regularly. My heart is never content and I am always faced with many problems. I want to know how I should make myself become a better muslim and also become successful in this life as well. Sometimes my focus goes into education and becoming successful, unfortunatly leaving behind my purpose in this life. I struggle and struggle to become a better muslim but my problems always keep me from doing so. Please tell me how I need to set my mentality so I can successfully achieve the best of both worlds. Most of all I want to make Allah(swt) proud of me. I dont want to be among those that gone bad. Please help me, cause sometimes I feel so weak. Thank you…w/Salaam
Answer: Dear Sr. N. As-salaamu alaykum. There are many things you can do to be more satisfied in your life with your relationship with Allah. We can only suggest few ideas, but the solution that best works for you is always the one that best caters to your condition and environment which we may not know.  Try to join a Muslim study group that meets on a regular basis or be in the company of good and genuine Muslims. Being with the Jamaa (the Muslim group) is extremely important. Every person goes through fades in life when other things may start pre-occupying him/her from remembering Allah, but the best way to decrease this is to be active in Islamic activities, to be in the presence of Muslims, and to learn something new and fulfilling on a regular basis.  Also, set a period during the day (such as half an hour before you sleep or when you wake up) when you can read the QurÕan, or pray extra prayers, or make supplications to Allah, but this time should be free from any worries or disturbances. Make for yourself an Islamic program that you can stick to, such as fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, or reading the QurÕan every night, or doing charitable work, etc. What matters is to be consistent, i.e., it is better to do an Islamic activity everyday for half an hour, than to do it once a week for two hours. Also, for your prayers, try to memorize one new verse of the QurÕan each day or each few days and repeat it during your prayers. This will break the routine and will increase your concentration and enjoyment in the prayer. But it is also very important to understand what you are memorizing. Good luck. Thank you for asking and God knows best.

Wa alaikum salam wa rahmathullahi wabarathuhu,

Allah has give your a very good heart. This is very important since everything starts with our heart and intention.

In today’s world it is very difficult a deeni life because of all the external and itnernal tempations around us. But, everything has a way out. Follow the below 5 points and inshah Allah, He will find a way out of all our problems.

    1. Ask Allah to have His mercy on us. This is ramadan and best time for this. Sincerely ask your dua from your heart. Cry. Your tears is very beloved to Allah.

    2. List down 2 important things in your life which you can change to please Allah. Am I waking up for fajr ? Am I praying 5 times a day ? Once this is done, take the next 2 things and try to work on them. Instead of doing everything in one step, do one at a time. Inshah Allah. You will start seeing results.

    3. Try to read more Quran and spend some time to ponder over its meaning.

    4. Give charity to poor people and ask them to do dua for you. This is very effective and Allah always help those who perform charity.

    5. And finally, put your trust in Allah. If He wishes good in someone, no one can stop Him. So, have a firm belief that you are His slave and He sees you and your heart and deeds. Keep moving. Inshah Allah, you will achieve the state of taqwa.

    Wa alaikum salam sister,

First of all thanks for putting your trust in us and giving your comment. May Allah who knows and sees everything accept this from you.

You know who is most merciful in the whole universe. It is Allah. Mercy is His attribute. He has 100 mercy. He just gave “one”
to this world and it is with mercy that all humans and other creature live each other.

You might have don haram in your life. You might have went away from the Lord. You know what, Allah still loves
and want you to come back. I can see many signs of that in your life.

    (1) Allah gave you a good heart which recognized the fact that you want peace and peace comes only from Allah.
    (2) He gave you a heart which long for love from Allah.
    (3) He gave you the chance to visit our website and read our artciles, especially “how to be a good muslim” article.
    (4) He gave you the mind to send us this mail because you realized that there is a solution to all your problems.
    (5) He gave us the toufeeq to reply to your email.

Do you think, all this happened just like that. No sister. Everything has a meaning.

You cannot remove the past, but you can control the future. YOU. Yourself cane change everything.
You can become one of the best slaves ever walked in this earth. You can be the most beloved to Allah and his angels.
You can be the one who memorized the whole Quran and can read it day and night without looking at it.
You can be the one who learn arabic and can understand Allah’s book and get the meaning from it.
You can be the one who repent for your sins and be as if you were a new born.
You can be among those who will enter the Jannah without even touching the hell for one sec atleast and live in the companionship of the wives and daughters of prophets and other pious companions. Inshah Allah.

When a women who committed adultary asked prophet to stone her ,he asked her to come after her birth and then after her feeding.
Then prophet asked the people to stone her to death and after that, he prayed her janazah. People asked him why he prayed janazah for this lady, and he said that there is no one to match her emaan in madina, because of her repentance.

Gates of repentance is still open.

So, sister, repent. Go back to Allah. Cry to Him for your sins. Ask Him to give his mercy to you. This is the last 10 days of Ramadan. Most best days of the entire year. So, take this as an opporunity to change, and that change will lead you to leave a legacy.

    May Allah accept from us.
